The Naples Art District (NAD) regularly highlights its members through their weekly Artist Spotlight! series, to provide an in-depth look into their creative work and artistic personas. Every featured artist shares the types of skills and techniques they use to make their art, so art enthusiasts and novices can gain a greater understanding and appreciation of fine art.
This week’s showcased artist is known as TEN TO TWO, a professional creative who works in mixed media/collage, printmaking, painting, video, and most of all, photography. When asked about other artists who have been inspirational throughout the artistic journey, TEN TO TWO says, “I fell in love with art at a young age…. Not one certain artist really drew me to my style…more of just surrounding myself with certain things I love to look at!” This artist especially enjoys photography and creating layered prints from various photographs; the love of photography first began during high school: “…all it took was that first roll of film and I knew [sic] I was addicted!! It gave me a way to show the world what I see in my mind!” Favorite art tools employed by TEN TO TWO during the creative process include torches which are used to burn in textures; also, wood is included a great deal as well because “it adds such a sense of age” to the final art pieces. TEN TO TWO began a professional photography career by photographing the ocean and its surroundings—from blue waves to cool surfers. Not surprisingly, one of the great loves of this adventure-loving artist is surfing. Other activities TEN TO TWO enjoys include skateboarding and traveling. “Next on the list of places to visit is Morocco! As soon as we can!” Who knows what inspiration will come from that trip! In the meantime, while waiting for the next great adventure, TEN TO TWO continues creating next-level pieces of art to share with the world.
