Artist Spotlight: Paula Brody & Silvina Marzari

things to do in naples florida

The Naples Art District (NAD) showcases member artists Paula Brody and Silvina Marzari this week! These two NAD artists are being featured to shine a light on their art and the creative process they use.

Paula creates paintings, mixed media collage pieces, and beaded jewelry; while Silvina focuses on canvas art including portraiture.

Paula is a texture-focused artist. She notes, “If you look closely at nature, almost everything is textured.  The only really straight line you see in nature is the visual horizon.  So, my artwork is inspired by the gentle curves and multiple shapes in the natural world.” In the summer months, Paula spends time in Cape Cod, taking inspiration for her work from her perennial flower gardens; the colors and shapes leave her “awestruck” and influence each piece she creates. She paints on canvas, but also combines paints of different types with other mediums like oil pastels, fibers, fabric, and found objects to create original multi-textured and multi-dimensional works; she also handcrafts beaded necklaces. Paula believes that everyone has an “inner artist” and offers classes and workshops in painting, mixed media collage, and necklace beading that are designed to reinforce individual creativity. “I am most fascinated by water,” Paula says, “always studying the colors, reflections and movement in the ocean, bays and inlets.  When I swim, I watch the subtle changes in the surface of the water.  These meditations are the inspiration for much of my artwork.” When she isn’t swimming or exploring the ocean looking for more inspiration, she enjoys creating her imaginative artwork in her studio at Inspirations Artists & Design Gallery on Shirley Street in the Naples Art District. As the current President of the Naples Art District, Paula encourages visitors to really explore works of fine art and to participate in art education, to gain an understanding of it and appreciate it more deeply. Paula creates and shares her artwork alongside other artists with studios and galleries in the District in an effort to spread arts awareness throughout the community.

Silvina Marzari, born and raised in Mendoza, Argentina, has been an art lover since she was a child. She loved to sketch and draw at an early age, often taking inspiration from nature or books. Her childhood hobby grew into a dream she had to chase, which she did after moving to New York with her family. Silvina studied art at New York City’s School of Visual Arts, as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology. When not attending college classes, Silvina travelled throughout Europe, visiting artistic epicenters from the Acropolis of Greece, to the Sistine Chapel and the Coliseum of the Vatican City and Rome, to the Eiffel Tower and museums of France. Upon her college graduation, Silvina worked as a residential and commercial muralist and portrait artist. Inspired by the works of glass sculptor Dale Chihuly and portrait artist John Sargent, Silvina now lives and works in Naples, Florida where she enjoys walking along the beach, spending time in prayer, and enjoying time with her supportive husband and children when she isn’t creating art. She also enjoys volunteer work, and says “giving back through my art, through teaching, counseling at camps, or mission trips” is important to her. You can find Silvina’s work in the Naples Art District at the Art Edge Gallery.

The Naples Art District boasts the largest concentration of working artists in Southwest Florida. It provides a place for professional artists like Paula and Silvina to share their talents with one another and other visitors, as studios and galleries are open to the public. NAD artists exhibit and sell their works of art from their studios and galleries in the District, as well as offering educational opportunities and holding special events to expose members of the local community to art in various ways. The Artist Spotlight series provides an opportunity for NAD member artists to connect and inspire people through their creative talents. NAD publishes a calendar of events, classes, and workshops online for anyone interested in meeting and learning more from artists of the District.
